Dog lovers who are allergy prone don’t break your hearts, as there are dogs for people with allergies. There are hybrid dogs that one can adopt. But only one pup in the litter will be hypoallergenic. Each pup will vary from one another in the same litter. Also keep in mind that each individual’s immune response will vary and what dog breed agrees with one person may not agree with the other in terms of allergic reactions. There are people who specialize in breeding dogs for people with allergies, as there is a demand for special dog breeds for allergy sufferers. Some of the hypoallergenic dog breeds suggested are ‘Basenji, American hairless Terrier, Portuguese Water Dog, Irish Water Spaniel, Labradoodle, Kerry Blue terrier’. Such dogs shed less hair and therefore less dander as it is the skin dander that attaches itself to the dog’s hair that are the allergens. In other words they have non-shedding coats. The American Kennel Club is the appropriate place to contact for dogs for people with allergies.
Just by adopting allergy free dogs for people with allergies is not enough. It is a two way process. One is to ensure that even your pup has no allergy and is kept in a clean environment and does not develop any kind of allergy including dog food allergies.
